Golden Retriever Gets the Surprise of Her Life During a Curious Encounter With a Crab

The crab was minding its own business until Mel decided it deserved a much closer inspection. The happy dog is walking along the wet sand with mom following behind, phone camera rolling, when something catches her attention a few feet ahead. She initially keeps walking, but then suddenly quickens her steps toward the strange little creature. In the video shared by @melfalcai, mom tells the Golden Retriever to be careful in Portuguese as Mel gets closer to the crab for a sniff. That curiosity lasts right up until the crab suddenly raises its claws and moves toward her face.

Fascinated Golden Retriever leaps into the air when her close-up crab encounter takes a turn

Mel had plenty of room to keep walking. Instead, she takes those last few steps toward the crab, with mom getting closer behind her and warning her to be careful. The Golden Retriever leans in for a proper sniff. Mom screams in horror just as the crab makes its move. Its claws come up, Mel’s head jerks back, and suddenly all four paws leave the sand. The jump is so high that it takes a second to see where she is going to land.

She comes down, scrambles away, and runs several steps away from the crab with her tail tucked between her legs. Mom is still recovering from the scare herself, but she starts laughing when she sees Mel looking back at her. The Golden Retriever eventually comes closer to Mom, though she keeps a very careful distance from the spot where the crab is.

It lasts only a few seconds, but the video of the Golden Retriever’s encounter with the crab has been viewed more than 12.7 million times and received over 1.9 million likes. The comments are full of people trying not to laugh at Mel’s fright. One person simply said, “That dog jumped so high.” Another admitted feeling guilty for laughing while still giving the jump a “10.”

Someone else said she had only wanted to make friends, calling it typical Golden Retriever behavior. And there was the simple prediction from another viewer: “Won’t do that again lol.” Mel seems to have reached the same conclusion.
