Rescue Puppy Watches His Big Buddy Sit & Then Gives Dad a Moment That Melts His Heart

As a puppy, Cowboy has a lot to learn, but he has already figured out one useful trick: watch Cactus. Dad starts a little training session with the rescue puppy while Cactus, his older brother, sits nearby, ready to demonstrate exactly what “sit” looks like.

In the video shared by @cactustherescue, Cowboy is far more interested in giving Dad kisses at first, while Cactus follows the command and catches his treat without missing a beat. Then it’s Cowboy’s turn. He pops up for the treat, tries again, and eventually plants himself on the floor when Dad asks him to sit. And his tail starts wagging the second he gets it right.

Cowboy’s dad thinks watching Cactus helped the puppy learn to sit

Michael Henry starts by explaining to the viewers that Cowboy is getting old enough to learn how to be a good boy. Cactus also joins the party and gets some scratches before his younger housemate’s lesson begins. Then Dad carries Cowboy over. “Your gonna watch Cactus sit.” Cactus does the first demonstration. Dad holds out the treat, asks him to sit, and Cactus does exactly that. He gets his reward, too, catching the treat when Michael tosses it to him.

Cowboy, for the moment, has other priorities. He is much more interested in his dad’s face, handing out excited kisses while the lesson continues. Then it’s his turn. “Cowboy, can you sit?” But because he doesn’t know how to follow the command yet, instead of sitting down, he jumps up to get the treat.

Dad tries again, and Cowboy pops up again, this time with Cactus watching from nearby. Michael patiently resets him, keeps the treat out of reach, and gives the command once more: “Sit.” This time, Cowboy stays down. His tail starts wagging, and Michael quickly asks him to stay. Cowboy manages that too, and then gets the treat he has been working toward. “Good boy, Cowboy. You’re so fast. Yay.”

The caption says, “That was SO much easier than expected,” with Dad guessing that Cowboy may have been watching Cactus and picking things up on his own. The clip has received more than 53,000 likes, and viewers noticed Cactus’s role too. One loved how closely he watched the lesson, while another called him Cowboy’s “best big brother and teacher.”
